Content is Queen - the fastest way to grow your business and why
How do you feel about creating content for your business? It's a topic which comes up with clients and I know a lot of business owners struggle with it.The most common struggles include coming up with creative ideas, finding the time to write and knowing where to share their stories and their ideas. It can be super frustrating especially if the thought of coming up with even a week's worth of content puts you into a tailspin.Even if you struggle with this part of your marketing, I want you to know it can be easier and once you get into the habit of prioritising it the ease and flow will come. There are three simple things which will help you to get focused on creating great content which helps to grow your business.1) Planning- working out what you want to say! This is your starting point and some things to remember when you are planning content topics.Does itENGAGE?– grab the attention, captivate and entertain.Does itEDUCATE?- improve their knowledge and awareness of a topic.Does itENCOURAGE?- this could be to make a change, take action or simple steps towards a goal.
If you are struggling with ideas, look at what your clients are struggling with, your previous client testimonials and feedback, what is happening in your industry and key trends. Also remember seasonal themes as they can provide a great anchor for creating content, especially when you are looking to support your audience with their wellbeing and their lifestyle.2) Creation - scheduling in the time to write! when will you do it and how can you create a manageable schedule? Inspiration doesn't always strike when we want it to so use a notebook or planner to keep a list of content ideas so you always have a bank of themes to refer to.3) Sharing- when and where do you plan to share your content? pick the platforms where your ideal clients and audience hang out! this is important because you don't want to waste time sharing to the wrong platforms. The point here is that you don't have to be everywhere, but you do need to know the best places for you to nurture your audience. For me right now it is Instagram and LinkedIn.Some final thoughts! Plan ahead but don't plan EVERYTHING. It helps to plan ahead with content so you are aligning what you are sharing with your business goals. I would suggest doing this monthly so at least having a 30 day framework for your key messages and themes. Then you can also create ad hoc content like video snippets to support the bigger themes. This allows you the flexibility to be creative and share thoughts and inspiration when it strikes! Consistency is key. If you want to grow your audience people need to know they can rely on you! They need to know that the weekly email they look forward to will be popping into their inbox or that you will be showing up on Facebook Live. If you drop off the radar you lose that connection with your audience and it becomes harder to get it back. Remember to repurpose your content - for every long form piece of content, you should be able to get at least 4/5 pieces of shorter content from it. You don't need to be a content machine you just need to think carefully about how you can get the most out of what you are creating. Finally... don't be afraid to let your personality shine through! one of the reasons content helps to sell you and your business to your audience is because it gives people a sense of who you are, your philosophy and opinions.Don't be afraid to speak up and share your thoughts. This is what will make you stand out from the crowd.Victoria x
