Confidence Tips to Help you Step into your Power

Since I started my business I have noticed a reoccurring theme which crops up among my clients around confidence. It usually happens when they are at a point when they are being required to step up, make a major decision or do something out of their comfort zone. It's that uncomfortable feeling when we know what we want but fear steps in and says "you can't do that" or "why do you think you're capable of achieving that".

The women I am referring to are all experienced, knowledgeable and experts in their specific area but they have and do at some points face issues around confidence.

Firstly, we all have days when we doubt our abilities, that is just human nature. Often when I spend too much time online, I slip into self comparison mode and have to bring my awareness back to myself. Whatever it might be, it can feel awful if it stops us from taking steps forwards.

One thing which is important to remember is that in my experience, when we have a confidence crisis it is because our internal world is not aligned with our outside world.

What do I mean by that? It simply means that we are tuning into our negative inner voice and not looking at the reality/truth in front of us.

I am learning that we can take control of those "mind monkeys" by having tools in place which we can utilise when we find ourselves in a negative mindset and unable to take action.

So how can we as business owners practice the art of being more confident? If we can get to a point where we feel more consistently confident, it can only have a positive impact, not only on how we run our businesses but also how we show up in our day to day lives.

Here are 5 steps you can take to step into the most confident version of yourself and to support you on your business journey

1. Get super clear on your personal brand

When you do the work to get clear on your vision, values and what you stand for, it puts you in a position of strength and therefore confidence. You feel good about where you are, where you want to be and you accept yourself for who you are. You are 100% connected to your joy and what differentiates you from other people. This is a powerful position from which to develop an entrepreneurial mindset and to make a commitment to building your confidence.

Make a list of words which are connected to your personal brand and take some time to look over what you have written - does it feel good, exciting, like anything is possible?

Clarity = Confidence.

2. Surround yourself with confident people

One of the easiest ways to feel more confident is to spend time with people who have a "confident spirit". Those people who you admire and who have an infectious energy. This not only lifts your own vibration but it also helps you to feel more confident . We are the sum of the 5 people we spend the most time so it makes sense to spend time with people who have a positive effect on you.

3. Get support from a mentor or coach

Working with a mentor or coach can help you to create the foundations for long term success. Having someone on hand to help you to visualise your goals, map out the path and hold you accountable for what you are aiming for is invaluable. The last time I worked with a coach, I was about to re-locate and set up my business and it helped to have someone on hand who could keep me on track and cheer me on. It helped me to get out of my own way and to accept myself as I was in that present moment.

One of the greatest thing a coach or mentor can do is to teach you the tools for long term success and when it comes to building your own confidence this is invaluable.

4. Get comfortable being uncomfortable

As a business owner we are presented with opportunities on a regular basis to push ourselves and when we accept the challenge presented to us, it can have the greatest effect on our confidence. It can be terrifying to do something new especially when that requires us to show up in a way we haven't done before, but the rewards are amazing.

Examples which I see with my clients include not wanting to be too visible and to go after things like media opportunities, speaking at events, being interviewed about their story and sharing their vulnerable side. These are all things which we can easily avoid but if we show up and accept the challenge can have the greatest impact on our confidence levels.

If this resonates with you why not pick just one small thing which you can do to start building your confidence. It might be to simply attend a new industry event or plan out a blog post or feature which focuses on sharing things about your own journey which you have avoided in the past. Start small and build towards something bigger.

5. Make a commitment to thinking like a confident person

Becoming more confident is primarily down to the internal work we commit to. Once we master that, it makes the external shifts so much easier. If you have a daily self development practice then you can use this to supercharge your confidence. Mindset work is important when you are running a business because the energy you create has a ripple effect on everything you do, the people you interact with and the work you put out into the world.

So how can you boost your mindset? There are a number of ways which I personally find beneficial. Every morning I do a 20 minute success meditation from one of my own favourite coaches, Polly Alexandre. The meditation focuses on creating success in different areas of your life through the modality of theta healing.

Creating a list of positive affirmations which you can connect to daily is also a great way to lift your mood and help you to feel more positive about yourself. Finally I would recommend journalling and getting thoughts out of your head and onto paper. This simple act can support you in processing what is going on in your head and to make sense of what is supporting you and what isn't.

Combined all of these things will help you to connect to yourself, your purpose and to think and act more confidently.
